From 2 Million Feet to Multi-Lateral Firsts: WWT’s 2025 Innovations Set the Stage for 2026

WWT started 2025 by surpassing a milestone of 2,000,000 feet tractored worldwide. Longer and longer extended reach wells, along with the increased pace of operations, are helping drive up the required footage.

The new generation of tractors, including the SSL (Sequenced Single Leg) tractor and its slim counterpart, the 212L, were introduced, successfully completed field trials, and began replacing previous generations in commercial operations. The new models reduce complexity for improved reliability and offer significantly shorter BHA length. The new hydraulic circuit allows for doubling the down-hole tractoring speed, up to 30 ft /min, saving operational time.

Mid-year WWT performed the world’s first successful implementation of a CT tractor with a multi-lateral tool, accessing multiple laterals in a single run and tractoring down the extended reach open-hole sections to TD. This unique combination proved the concept for rigless intervention in extended reach multi-lateral wells.

Looking forward to 2026, WWT’s R&D team keeps pushing the limits of pulling CT. The team has been hard at work developing the High Capacity Tractor – offering improved pulling force while still passing through restrictions in upper production tubing. Field trials slated for early next year aim to break the record for deepest CT well intervention. Improvements are underway for the Milling Tractor, pushing the limits of CT plug milling and making operators rethink the need to switch to snubbing units for mega reach wells.
