WWT Australia Case: 44% Torque Reduction with SS3 NRPs

Executive Summary

Operator contacted WWT to perform a torque and drag analysis for directional well to reduce the torque while drilling 8-1/2 in. section. 156 x SS3-550 NRPs were installed at a frequency of one per joint to cover the areas of highest side forces in the build section.

NRP Performance

The 8-1/2 in. section was drilled from 3,260m to 4,650m MD with NRPs covering the highest side forces from 490 to 2,010 m. Simulations expected torque with NRPs to be reduced by 24% at TD, and backmodeled data shows that actual torque was reduced overall by 44%.
