Client challenge
High torque and weight transfer issues encountered while drilling and running liner reaching rigs top drive TQ capacity
Our solution
WWT SS3-550 Non-Rotating Protectors (NRPs) used to cover the build section and into the heel to reduce both axial and rotational friction.
Results
Two similar extended-reach wells in Alberta, Canada needed torque and drag reduction while drilling with a conventional motor for a 222mm hole section and drag reduction while running the 7’’ liner. NRPs reduced
drilling torque by 30% and 37% (shown below left) and drag while running liner by 31 klb and 34 klb (shown below right).
